Constant presence

सन्ततं दैवसान्निध्यं
देहे मे वर्धतां हृदि
तवास्यां देहयात्रायां
येन स्यान्निर्भयो जयः ||

santatam daiva saaniddhyam
dehe me vardhataam hrdi
tavaasyaam deha yaatraayaam
yena syaannirbhayo jayah .

Let the constant Presence, the Guide, grow fuller and fuller in my body, in the heart, more and more vivid.

Thus may the soul's victory in Thy movement be fearlessly achieved.

Four powers of the Mother

The Mother, by Sri Aurobindo is a text that can be studied over an entire lifetime. Sastriar captures the four powers of the Mother in sanskrit verse in precise form, yet distills the very essence of the four powers of the Mother in those few lines.

Four Powers of the Mother

बुद्धिरुच्छविशालभूर्
बलमुद्भटम् विजयोन्नतं
विश्वसुन्दरसंमदा
ह्रुदयअङ्गमा रसवाहिनी |

सर्वतन्त्रविचकक्षणा
सकलार्थसिद्धिकलात्मिका
देवतात्मचतुष्टायी
भुवनाधिरज्यविलासिनी ||

Wisdom issued out of the lofty Vast,
Mighty Strength holding aloft in Victory,
Delight of cosmic Beauty,
captivating the heart, aflow with the sap of life.

Skill in all arts and
finding successful accomplishment in all things -
in these, her four divine forms,
the Mother is the Empress of the world.

Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharishi

Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharishi

Sri Kapali Sastry came to the feet of the Maharishi in 1911, as a disciple introduced by Kavyakanta Ganapati Muni.

He was not an inmate of the Ashram, as his relationship preceded the formation of the Ramanashramam and he later came to reside permanently at the Sri Aurobindo Ashram.

He wrote the commentary on Sat Darshana, titled the Sat Darshana Bhashyam. The Sat Darshana was the Muni's Sanskrit rendering of the Maharishi's Tamil உள்ளது நாற்பது (Ulladu Narpadu). He also wrote the English translation of this commentary, making it accessible to a much wider audience and is readable mostly in its own right directly, even without reference to the original Sanskrit.

Another signal work by him is the Ramana Gita Prakasa. This was a very significant exposition of the Maharishi's Mahayoga by the Muni, in Sanskrit. There is one chapter in the Ramanagita which renders in a question-answer form, the Maharishi's instructions to Sri Kapali Sastry.

Sastriar wrote the Prakasa and dedicated it, in October 1941, at the feet of Bhagavan, with the blessing of the Mother. He also drafted an English translation of the introduction.

The Collected works also give the other poetic, prose and excerpts from Sastriar's writings, notes and speech on the Maharishi.
On the Veda

The Veda is considered the eternal sound body of the Supreme by those who have studied it with faith and devotion. The great Dharmic spiritual traditions of Bharat are founded in accordance to the Vedic way.

The orthodox schools have settled firmly on a ritualistic interpretation of the Veda. There have been several attempts to restore the inner meaning of the Veda.

There are, on the other hand, modern schools of interpretations by scholars which are not spiritual, but scientific in their approach.

It was given to Sri Aurobindo, by means of yoga, to reveal the Secret of the Veda, in the very terms that the Vedic seers build their works.

Sri Kapali Sastry, staying close to the Master, amplifies, expounds and creates studies that offer students of the Veda and Sri Aurobindo's integral yoga nothing short of the richest gold.

Sastriar firmly refutes contrary arguments with the nobility of the aryan ways, learning of the scholar and poise of the yogi. Such an approach is sorely missed today, with the natural way of bitter exchanges becoming the norm.

In the threads of this post (label is on-veda) we shall examine in closer detail the overview of Sastriar's writings on the Veda in Sanskrit, English and Tamil.

Flame of White Light

 Flame of White Light

A record of the truth and the Manifestation that is the MOTHER, brought to us in a wonderful book form by Sri.M.P.Pandit-ji, these are perceptions and realizations,of Sastriar, of the Mother, obtained from excerpts from his letters and other writings.

Pandit-ji, in his preface, writes of how the caption came to be. Sastriar told one of his students, who was struggling with a full acceptance of the Mother's divinity,

"TO ME SHE IS A FLAME OF WHITE LIGHT".

The book is published by Dipti Publications, Sri Aurobindo Ashram, Pondicherry.
